@Kmac Locally for my newsroom, as well as supporting local news outlets around the country, Facebook was far more impt than Twitter. Tucson just isn't a Twitter town — and that company never spent any money to foster rebuilding and positive change in the news biz. The staff at the FB Journalism Project did vital work.

I’m glad to see officials from within the Biden administration calling out the bullshit.
Mayor Pete: “If you’re a politician or media figure who sets up the LGBTQ community to be hated and feared - not because any of us ever harmed you but because you find it useful - then don’t you dare act surprised when this kind of violence follows.
Don’t you dare act surprised.”

@amay206 News outlets should set up their own instances. It's not tough. Reporters don't use Yahoo emails; they use accounts connected to the base URL used by their newsroom.

@pbump "That Maricopa County is more blue than the rest of the state isn’t really surprising."

Deep blue Pima County, where there's barely a functioning GOP, laughs and laughs.

@palafo I go for the really peaty stuff, myself, but that's a very nice tipple indeed.

Veteran stopped Club Q shooter. Per NYT
It was Mr. Fierro’s first time at a drag show, and he was digging it. He had spent 15 years in the Army, and now relished his role as a civilian and a father, watching one of his daughter’s old high-school friends perform.
“These kids want to live that way, want to have a good time, have at it,” he said as he described the night. “I’m happy about it because that is what I fought for, so they can do whatever they hell they want.”

@palafo

Another good reason for news orgs to have in-house instances, rather than potentially allowing admins to see communications that should be a bit more private

No need to open them to the public. Our email server isn't open to public signups. But using domain-connected accounts indicates that a user is who they claim to be.

@dublininquirer @jeffjarvis

We're not much larger — our plan is to have this a staff-only instance, not a public one. It took just a few minutes to spin up (and an hour or so debugging the email & Amazon S3 settings) with a droplet on Digital Ocean.

It took me all day to find some more words to throw at this evil in Colorado Springs.

I waited because I wanted to be careful. I wanted to be a good reporter and not saying anything I didn't know for sure.

We can't wait forever though. At a certain point, you have to call a hate crime a hate crime.
