Don't know if you've seen this, @jeffjarvis : Tucson Sentinel has a Mastodon instance set up not just on its own domain, but as a subdomain: mastodon.tucsonsentinel.com/ab

@TucsonSentinel

@clickhere @faduda We don't understand enough about Mastodon yet to understand why this would be something we'd want to/should do, tbh!

@dublininquirer @clickhere @faduda A few things: It is one way to get staff on Mastodon and show readers their affiliation. (Another way is rel="me".) It is a generous way to share the load in this volunteer-run ecosystem. You might consider starting an instance for your community to foster conversation, as I believe is journalism's first job. And you look cool.

@jeffjarvis We're very very small. We've only three full-time staff, and two part-time, and we publish weekly, 7-10 stories a week. And we're not very cool :-/ Would it still make sense for us?

We're not much larger — our plan is to have this a staff-only instance, not a public one. It took just a few minutes to spin up (and an hour or so debugging the email & Amazon S3 settings) with a droplet on Digital Ocean.

@DSmith_Tucson @dublininquirer @jeffjarvis Awesome! Great to see news outlets creating their own Mastodon presense. This the best way to truly "verify" that we know where our news is coming from.👍
