I know people have been warning that DMs are not "really" DMS here, but a nice aspect of the posting tools is you can make a thread a) visible but not in a top-level feed - "unlisted" b) visible only to your circle - "followers only" c) or mostly private - "visible for mentioned users only" - mistakenly called DMs on some apps. Taking a thread out of sight avoids the problem of Joe Rando boosting something you say to one person out of context and inviting a crowd to butt in.

Another good reason for news orgs to have in-house instances, rather than potentially allowing admins to see communications that should be a bit more private

@DSmith_Tucson Yeah, my assumption is no online communication is private, and that even includes internal corporate. I always assume it can be read, or leak, but I also generally always say what I think, regardless of where. I might swear less and be more polite based on circumstances.

@DSmith_Tucson Sometimes I find myself in a church or a kindergarten class
