In Arizona, a divided state government means elected leaders spend a lot of their time blocking one another’s policy proposals instead of creating bipartisan compromise.

"Republicans" is fewer letters (if that's a concern) than "elected leaders" and is more accurate.

Funny how "partisan gridlock" is only a problem when the chief executive is a Democrat. If the chief exec were a Republican, you'd be calling it "obstruction."
