New archeological findings from the Grand Canyon have shed light on what life was like there during the Cambrian period, roughly 500 million years ago, long before the Colorado River cleaved the famous ravine.

@TucsonSentinel I really think it was an earthquake of massive sinkhole of an inland sea or lake. It just doesn’t look ‘eroded by river’ to me. I am not a geologist.
