After his inauguration as the 47th president, Donald Trump late Monday signed dozens of executive orders that will begin his immigration crackdown at the southern border.

@TucsonSentinel Does that mean his children who were born of non-citizen women are to become illegals?!

@nedhamson1 @TucsonSentinel
Even if the executive order were to be upheld, which is unlikely, it wouldn't affect people who gained citizenship before the executive order. The ex post facto clause of the Constitution says that no law can turn something that was legal before the effective date of the law into a crime.

@Steve98052 @TucsonSentinel expost facto will protect his children whoe mother was an undocumented migrant?

@nedhamson1 @TucsonSentinel
Per ex post facto, the children of undocumented immigrants who already _have_ citizenship can't have it taken away, but if the executive order is upheld (which I think unlikely), future US-born children of undocumented parents will not be citizens.

Analogous: Clarence Thomas seems skeptical of the _Loving_ decision, but if it were rescinded, his marriage to a white woman would remain legal because it was legal at the time.
