There’s something of a movement among people who remain the most suspicious of the 2020 presidential election results to return to the days when ballots were counted by hand - but there are two good reasons to avoid hand-counting ballots: speed and accuracy.

@TucsonSentinel part of the problem is how many ballots need to be counted in a single polling station. In most countries there are many more polling stations, and there is even parallelism between the different voting desks. Those countries use just hand counting, but have quick turnaround on the results.
