Please don't describe this as an "abortion impasse." That's very irresponsible.

One Republican Senator is deliberately weakening the American military. That is unprecedented. It is not some standard political maneuver, and it must not be normalized.

@TucsonSentinel Seems like he’s working for another country. Saudi Arabia, China, North Korea, Russia? Just about any country that wants our military weakened. #TraitorTuberville

And I repeat... POTUS is Commander-in-Chief. Why can't he "command" these promotions? Our national security is at risk.

@lolonurse@ohai.social @TucsonSentinel@mastodon.tucsonsentinel.com

Similar reason that he can't unilaterally appoint other senior offices' leadership ranks.

@ferricoxide @TucsonSentinel Art 2, Sect 2, Clause 1- President as Commander of Armed Forces:
In the absence of attempts by Congress to limit his/her power, the President may establish and prescribe the jurisdiction and procedure of military commissions,... but later it does say potus lacks power to choose their subordinates, whose grades/qualifications are determined by Congress... thanks for nudging me to do my homework!! 👋🏼

@lolonurse

The Constitution requires Senate approval of generals and flag officers. The law requires Senate approval of other military promotions.

What's so disgusting about Tuberville is that it's just to get attention. Tuberville doesn't give a rat's ass about the "unborn" and doesn't care how many millions of dollars are wasted dealing with his stupid shit, or how many people his stunt injures, or even that he imperils the security of our military for his own self-absorbed entertainment. He's a dumb football coach trying to be a "player" in the Senate, basking in his moment in the limelight.
