Advocates launch initiative to secure abortion rights in Arizona tucsonsentinel.com/local/repor
A coalition of groups is seeking to ask voters to enshrine the right to an abortion in the Arizona Constitution. If approved by voters in the November 2024 election, the Arizona Abortion Access Act would allow women to terminate their pregnancy until the point at which a fetus could survive outside the womb.

@TucsonSentinel Hmm, I’m not sure this is a good criteria. Depending on the degree of medical intervention, fetuses at dramatically varying stages of development could “survive.” But at what cost, both financial and in terms of health and developmental disability?

I think the legal limit should be “prior to birth,” and let the woman and her doctor decide.

@TucsonSentinel I wasn’t clear enough in my earlier post. I still find it ambiguous. I guess most laws are written like this, using nebulous terms like “extraordinary,” and depend on courts to define it on a case-by-case basis. I just wish the law was more clear and did more to defer to the right to choose, in order to help prevent frivolous suits against individual abortions.

@JetForMe The proposed law also includes a provision allowing all abortions to protect physical and mental health, in the judgment of the health care professional.
