Some states to landlords: You can’t evict tenants without a good reason tucsonsentinel.com/nationworld
Since 2019, several cities and states have adopted some form of “just cause eviction”, which requires that landlords provide a valid reason for removing tenants - though groups argue the policies could make the housing shortage worse by pushing some to stop offering rentals.

I sincerely doubt landlords are going to cut off their income because they can't evict tenants at will.

Yeah, they're gonna just STOP making money to pay off the real estate loans and property taxes, yeah, yeah, that's the ticket!!!
