A pair of bills proposed by Fountain Hills Republican John Kavanagh that would criminalize common activities for people experiencing homelessness had their first hearings in the Arizona Senate Wednesday, although their path to becoming law remains unclear.

@TucsonSentinel they are already treated as criminals. My homeless mentally ill drug addicted nephew was jailed over 250 times in Arizona during his short life before being hit by a car. At least he finally had housing the last two weeks of his life -- in hospice care brain dead. Would've been so much easier to just provide him housing, but the state never got that. We kept him in housing and off the street for 10 years before his grandfather stole what was left of his trust.
