@larthallor @mastodonmigration @TexasObserver @restofworld @RollingStone @ProPublica @sfgate No verification is more reliable than an instance on a main domain, as ours is.
@cassolotl @TucsonSentinel the verification only confirms that the Mastodon user is also the owner of a website. It says nothing about the identity of that person.
If there's a misperception that the validation checkmark proves identity more than a named account on a corporate server, I think the responsible thing is to try to fix it, not feed into it.
@TucsonSentinel While that *is* true, putting the green "verified" checkmark on your profile is so easy and makes it a lot easier for other users to check that you're legit, so I think I would recommend doing it anyway?
