Pima, Santa Cruz to certify election canvasses, but Cochise County goes haywire tucsonsentinel.com/opinion/rep
Not even the Arizona Legislature envisioned an entire county saying "Know what? We don't like elections anymore. We're out." Enter: Cochise County. Pima and Santa Cruz are set to approve their canvasses. Not doing it could very well be a crime in Arizona. A felony, in fact.

EXCLUSIVE: Senior Dem lawmakers give Chief Justice Roberts an ultimatum on ethics issues, in wake of reports on alleged 2014 #SCOTUS leak & lobbying of justices. You probe or Congress will, Sen. Whitehouse & Rep. Hank Johnson declare in new letter politico.com/news/2022/11/20/s

Why are food prices continuing to increase?

The four largest food companies control 82 percent of beef packing, 85 percent of soybean processing, 63 percent of pork packing, and 53 percent of chicken processing.

Corporations are raising prices because they can.

Jack Shafer at Politico:

"The over-reliance on predictive journalism does a disservice to everybody."

One thing he misses: The press organizes election coverage around "who's gonna win?" for many reasons. It's easy. It's portable. It sells. But it's also that "who's gonna win?" feels to them like a non-ideological question.

That makes it "safe" for journalists to dive in, even though the predictions themselves are risky— and often end in ridicule.

You might have seen somebody using the proverb Vox Populi, Vox Dei. What was missing was the context in which it was used:

Nec audiendi qui solent dicere, Vox populi, vox Dei, quum tumultuositas vulgi semper insaniae proxima sit.

In case you do not speak Latin, it means in English:

And those people should not be listened to who keep saying the voice of the people is the voice of God since the riotousness of the crowd is always very close to madness.

Each attack is meant to inspire the next:

“Far-right extremist groups [celebrated the Club Q] killings in blogs & chatrooms. On one channel used by neo-Nazi groups, postings showered praise on the gunman and called for more killings of gays & lesbians…”

Elon Musk garbage

This is pretty much the dynamic I would have expected re Musk and Trump's Twitter account—Musk wants the attention that comes from reactivating DJT; DJT doesn't want to give him the satisfaction; now EM is just posting memes like a weird little kid tugging at the hem of DJT's jacket twitter.com/elonmusk/status/15

RUFKM? Maricopa County will not report any additional votes tonight; they'll wrap up and report them all Monday.

Democratic candidate for Arizona attorney general Kris Mayes leads Trumpist candidate Abe Hamadeh by 850 votes out of 2,590,823 ballots cast.

There'll be an automatic recount, but they need to finish counting the votes the first time before that can begin.

Today is #TransDayofRemembrance when we honor and remember trans lives taken by violence. How horrifying that a deadly attack upon the LGBTQ+ community in Colorado Springs should occur right before this solemn day.
Hate isn’t born in us. It is taught. It must end.
This starts with our political leaders, who must cease their cynical attacks against our community before another attack occurs.
Call out the hate. Remind them of its consequences. Hold them to account.

The copper bosses shot you Joe,
they killed you Joe, says I
Takes more than guns to kill a man
Says Joe, I didn't die

Standing there as big as life
Smiling with his eyes
Joe says, What they forgot to kill
went on to organize!

I never died, says he

As many have pointed out, Twitter serves as today’s “digital news wire” and recreating that is essential to a competitor platform’s success. Only if news organizations migrate to Mastodon (even if they keep posting on Twitter) will the platform truly grow.

A warning about deactivating your birdsite account

Your Twitter handle can be registered by anyone 30 days after deactivation. If impersonation is in your threat model, lock your account and park it.

important advice for leaving twitter

don’t deactivate or delete your twitter account unless you’re happy for someone else to get your username and perhaps post “as you” after the grace period, or sooner — with sinkboy who knows

Here’s an interesting fact: Trump’s Twitter account just came back online and it has only 2.8 million followers. If memory serves, this is down from more than 80 million when the account was suspended. What explains the more than 90 percent decrease? Is it that a huge number of his followers left? That they were purged in bot purges? That they were fake to begin with with?
