Pushed by conservative activists, 28 states over the past four years have banned or restricted local governments’ use of private donations to run cash-strapped election offices, and election officials say the ongoing funding uncertainty is untenable.

@TucsonSentinel In Canada we have Elections Canada, which is similar to Elections BC, the provincial arm in the province where I live.

They are a non-governmental, non-partisan entity whose mandate is to oversee elections and ensure they are fair, that the public has access to any audits, and that there has been no interference.

They field complaints and investigate where appropriate, or refer to law enforcement where needed.
