Independents, with a lowercase i, are now Arizona’s biggest voter group tucsonsentinel.com/local/repor
The latest voter registration numbers from the Arizona Secretary of State’s office show that independent voters – officially unaffiliated or “other” voters who do not align with a party – edged out Republicans in July to become the largest single group of voters in the state.

@TucsonSentinel It would be interesting to see what the previous party registration was for the newly minted 'Independents' in Arizona.

@TucsonSentinel in my time in AZ I registered as a Republican, Democrat, and Libertarian depending on where I thought my vote could matter the most in the primaries. I'd guess this "surge" is simply MAGA realizing they can negatively impact the Democratic primaries. Hope I'm wrong.

@TucsonSentinel This is the hill I will eventually die on even though I realize it has no importance: UNAFFILIATED DOES NOT MEAN INDEPENDENT

Unaffiliated voters have just as strong / weak an ideological lean as other voters. There are a large variety of reasons these voters don’t want to be labeled. They are not a monolithic group. Treating them that way, like labeling them the biggest voter group, is lazy and hides very real differences among those voters.
