We've entered a new stage in the evolution of Mastodon social media. Trailblazing media organizations are creating their own instances–something impossible on other social media platforms.

Recently publications like @RollingStone, @ProPublica and @sfgate established official accounts, now a few pioneers are taking the next step.

This is no case of early adopters suffer the consequences. #mastodon is sufficiently mature to demonstrate that independence is an attribute upon which trust is built.

Smart agencies see this as a way of engaging their 'real' audience in an undiluted, uncontaminated manner.

Micropayments is a possibility. Viewing the full contents for fractions of pennies might power free enterprise in news.

Micropayments have been tried in the news business multiple times over the last 30 years. Over and over and over. Haven't worked once.

Seems like things are evolving… sharing costs is a theme with tiny instance operators. Why not with excellent journalism in the #Fediverse ? I like where the #community is going. On the other hand I’m often wrong. Something else then?
